What are Vitamins?
Vitamins are very important for intake of our body. One should consume vitamins in right quantity to stay fit and healthy. There are a variety of vitamins like Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2,Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Vitamin Biotin, Vitamin C, Vitamin Choline, Vitamin D, Vitamin E. Vitamin A – is good for formation and maintenance of skin, hair and mucous membranes. It also helps us too have a clear vision in dim lights. Also, it helps in tooth and bone growth. Yellow and Orange fruits, Green leafy vegetables, fortified oatmeal, liver and dairy products are a good source of Vitamin A.
Vitamin B1 helps the body release energy from protein, fats and carbohydrates during metabolism. Fortified cereals and oatmeal, meat, rice and pasta, whole grain and liver are all good sources of Vitamin B1.
Vitamin B2 helps the body to release energy from fats, carbohydrates and protein, during metabolism. Fortified cereals, organ meat and leafy vegetables are good sources of Vitamin B2.
Vitamin B6 helps to build body tissue and also aids in metabolism of proteins. Food items like fish, poultry, lean meats, bananas, prunes, dried beans, avocados and whole wheat are rich in Vitamin B6.
Vitamin B12 helps in aiding cell development, functioning of the nervous system, and metabolism of protein and fats. Milk, meat products and seafood are rich in Vitamin B12.
Vitamin Biotin are involved in metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. They can be found in cereal, grain products, yeast, legumes and liver.
Vitamin C is essential for structure of bones, cartilage, muscle, and blood vessels. It also helps maintain capillaries and gums and aids in absorption of iron. Food items like citrus fruits, berries, vegetables and pepper are rich sources of Vitamin C.
Vitamin D aids in bone and tooth formation, helps maintain heart action and nervous system. Food items like fortified milk, butter, eggs and sunlight are rich in Vitamin D.
